Classy

Poco Classy Lass

“Classy”

Classy is a 1990 model line back buttermilk dun Quarter Horse mare. She is a very talented riding instructor in her own right.  She enjoys her job, long walks, feed time, carrots, apples, and loves to be the center of attention. Classy is suitable for just about anyone to ride and learn with. She is patient with new people and can show her stuff to those who know how to ride. In her early years she was ridden mostly English but performs Western with equal aptitude. Classy is pictured in Open Door Equine’s header photo at the top of the web pages and is the reason ODE exists. Classy is currently on light duty/lessons.

“Dusty”

Dusty

Dusty

Dusty was born in 1995 and is a Standardbred. He is a lovable little stinker. At around 14 hands high our miniature Black Beauty is best suited to the smaller set of riders. He is the herd tough guy but is a softy when it comes to little people. In winter he is the fuzziest little teddy bear. He steals the hearts of all his little young ladies. A few of his favorite treats are apples, pears and peppermints.

Dusty came to ODE in the summer of 2012. He was our 5th lesson horse hopeful. He has done a spectacular job. Dusty is available for leasing. 4-H season is coming soon so don’t wait too long or this pro will be snapped up.

“June Bug”

June

June is an ApHA mare and a Western turned English Jumping pro. She is the largest of our working horses, so large in fact she requires a draft bit. June and Dusty are best buddies and can often be found grazing together. When under saddle this 9 year old chestnut mare requires a more knowledgeable seat driven rider. She is suited for an intermediate rider because of her more precision riding requirements. Her gentle giant demeanor and soft eyes melt many hearts. ODE is happy to announce that as of January 2013 June has been on a half lease. Congratulations Bea and June.

“Fabio” ReHomed

Fabio

Fabio

Fabio is our “Cinderella Story” horse. In June of 2012 my friend Tony called and said he found a really pretty horse that needs to get out of where he is and asked if we could take him in over at the barn. I said yes and in a few days he arrived at the barn. He was in sad shape and had been labeled “dangerous” by his former owner. The truth of the matter was that an emaciated horse can not steady themselves when an inexperienced rider who weighs roughly 35% of his body weight hangs off his side in an attempt to mount. Fabio fell over and acquired the dangerous label.

This fine horse, once terrified of people, himself and even his own shadow has emerged from his shell and is comfortable enough around the barn to lay down in his stall for a nap with busy activity and people milling about. He is a tall Tennessee Walking Horse (TWH), he will trot and pace beautifully and can show Gaited, Western or English. He is talented and has enough heart in him to trust people again. He does need a little time to trust new riders under saddle. He is available for leasing to the right people. At this time he is under one half lease and is open for lessons for riders with light aids and those who think “in the moment” and have the patients to wait for him to trust.

Louis

Louis

“Louis”

Louis is an OTTB possibly imported from France. His tattoo is a little hard to read after 15 years. He is a sensitive chap who loves to hug his favorite people. He is skilled in advanced English riding and is a superior jumping instructor. In the winter his snip looks an awful lot like a reindeer. Lou has his first half lease starting in February. He is available for lessons and half lease.

“Cass”

Cass

Cass

Cass belongs to one of our board of director members. He is a 16 hh, 8 year old AQHA gelding. Cass is a bit emotionally sensitive and needs people who are able to control their emotional state. The calmer his rider, the better he can tune into him or her. When he clicks with his rider it can be a great match. Currently he is under half lease and is no longer available for an additional lease.

Jen n Blue

“Blue” For Sale

Blue’s registered name is The Best Day Ever. He is a 8 year old Saddlebred and the barn goober.

Blue is for intermediate to advanced riders as he is bursting with energy. He is best suited for students ready to advance to a more expressive mount and those looking to hone a heightened awareness of their horse.

In the warmer months he can be found sticking his tongue in the fan, stoping the blades, whipping his head back to watch the blades start up again. He is your typical silly Saddlebred. He does experience his world by mouth so attention should be paid to where his lips are.  He is a fast thinker who pays full attention to the person who is working with him.  He definitely gives his handler exactly what they are asking for. All of these traits make him need a specific type of person. If you are looking to advance your inter-equine relationships, are able to think fluidly, quickly and are ready to pay the same amount of attention to him, can match his mental intensity, you may be the right person for him. He has been happily least in a Lease to Own situation! Yeah Bluebie!

“Merlin”

Merlin is one of our fabulous lesson horses. He is talented in the English arts and is working towards western as he has shown a great aptitude for that as well. He is a big patient guy who is good with kids and adults and is also looking for a Lessor. A Camelot rescue alumni who didn’t come with papers but he is most definitely a Spanish horse, possibly part Andalusian. He would make a great 4-H horse too. $250 per month with optional tack rental of $50 per month. (No Jumping)
